Whispering Beard Grows

Formerly, a private gathering of regional and local music talent, The Whispering Beard Folk Festival grows this year by opening ticket sales to the general public, and extending the line-up into a weekend long event of music, camping, food, drink and the coming together of musicians and music lovers alike.

The laid back atmosphere of the event draws folks from around the region to spend a day or the weekend to listen to a variety of folk and americana-styled music and catch the overall vibes of the festival.

Tree huggers, city slickers, hippies, and just plain folk come to gather at this event, most of which, if not already, leave as a Beardo (A follower of the festival).

This year, Whispering Beard is proud to present The Hackensaw Boys, Friday and Bluegrass Legend Mr. Peter Rowan, on Saturday. 28 other local and regional acts will playing throughout the weekend on two stages. Other acts include: The Tillers, Katie Laur, Frontier Folk Nebraska, The Hiders, The Buffalo Killers, Rumpke Mountain Boys, Comet Bluegrass Allstars and the Whiskey Bent Valley Boys to name a few.

The festival also introduces a new venue at the Thornhill Farm. Nestled along a mile plus stretch of the Licking River in Morning View, Kentucky, this 200 acre (approx.) working farm is located just 25 minutes from Downtown Cincinnati and is also home to the famous Thornhill Drag Strip. This scenic site is making the 2009 Whispering Beard Folk Festival a convenient and affordable getaway for a day or the entire weekend.

Thornhill Farm provides ample room for on-site camping, be it along the 15 acre wooded lake, fields, or the wooded areas along the Licking River. All camping is included with the price of admission, with a full weekend pass only $58 or a day pass only $35. (Weekend and VIP pass holders can reserve their campsite in advance of the festival; subject to availability.

A portion of proceeds from this year’s festival will go to Rivers Unlimited, an Ohio statewide group created by citizens to protect and restore our rivers. Riversunlimited.org.
